Amaya's Great Adventures- MN

Hi there, everyone,

Amaya is officially a seasoned traveler. She has logged 7 flights, already, in her 4 1/2 months of life. And, once again, she traveled very well on our latest journey to MN. While in MN, she enjoyed seeing some family and friends that she had already gotten to meet. She, also, had a great time meeting lots of other family and friends for the first time. She even got to play footsie with a little expectant friend, who has since arrived (little Sophia, Amaya can't wait to meet you in person). Our stay in MN was very much too brief. We didn't get to see everyone that we wanted to and we didn't get enough time with those we did get to see. So, we are already looking forward to our next visit up north. We are hoping to be able to have more time to stay during our next visit! More than just the weekend!

On Amaya's MN journey, she did decide to throw us one curve ball. We had a long day of travel heading to MN due to weather delays. All had gone very well, considering, though, and Amaya had been so good, so it was still a nice day of travel. But, by the time we arrived later on Thursday than planned, we were tired and ready to collapse into bed. Still in good spirits, but tired...actually, exhausted. We got all our luggage unloaded and went to get Amaya out of her car seat and that is when we learned she had decided she had been way to good and sweet, she needed to give us a little challenge. In a nutshell, she had exploded, so to speak. She was sitting atop a puddle of "melted chocolate." The kind that doesn't smell so good. There was so much it was in every nook and cranny Amaya's car seat has, and had migrated through all layers and on to the floor. So, the next few hours were spent attending to that scenario, so by the time we crawled into bed, we had never been so excited to go to sleep. Smile, smile. We later surmised Amaya is starting to cut a tooth, thus the diarrhea. The same day she started the excessive drooling and we can already see a tip of white trying to break through. Oh, the challenges of parenthood. Smile, smile. Makes for a good laugh after the fact, though!

Amaya decided to bring home an unexpected souvenir from her MN travels. She came home with her first little cold. Poor little sweetheart. She remains in good spirits, though, still happy and smiley. She has a very runny nose, nasal congestion, and a very occasional sneeze and cough. She had 2 days where she ate a lot less and didn't sleep very well, but she's eating more and sleeping better already, so we are hoping she's on the mend.

Let's see....that's about all for the update this time. We were too busy enjoying seeing our friends and family that we weren't very good about taking pics. We'd remember at the end of the evening and all snap a few pics. I wish I had taken one of all the children/babies together before they started leaving for the evening and/or going to sleep. So next time I will remember to take a picture of Amaya and her friends to share with all of you.

So, instead, here are pictures of Amaya sporting some of her pj's. She's all cozy and ready for some solid sack time. Much needed after the hustle and bustle of her MN adventure!

Next to come....
Stay tuned for pictures of Amaya eating her first rice cereal (scheduled for sometime this week). That could produce some interesting pictures. Smile, smile. Also, the temps have dipped, so we may just get Amaya back into the pool later this week. And any day now we are anticipating that tooth to break through. So that could be in the next update or in an update weeks from now. We shall see. Meanwhile, everyone enjoy the rest of summer. Thinking of you all.

Love always,

Amaya at 4 months

Hi there, everyone,

Amaya turned 4 months on Sunday. In one way, that is hard to believe. It seems the time has just flown by. But...in another way, it seems like she's been here forever. I suppose that is how it is with everyone's first baby. Amaya continues to be a pro at rolling. We sometimes find her on her tummy in the morning, the little stinker. She's also continuing to practice and prepare for crawling. Lately she has started developing a little aggressive side to her. While I was at work on Sunday night, Scott said she was batting at her toys on her gymini with all her might. She was hitting and kicking at them hard. I guess she was having a ball. Hopefully she'll use those skills for something constructive, like a sport. Amaya continues to show her assertiveness with her very loud ooohh's and aaahh's. Sometimes she does it for fun, in which case she is all smiles. And sometimes she does it to let you know she wants attention, in which case she smiles once you pick her up, sing a song, or play a game with her (or if you were not in the room, ie during her naptime, she smiles when she sees you). She enjoyed her loud ooohh's and aaahh's last Friday night, when we were on a girl's night out, to the point where it sounded like shrill screams. She was crackin' us up! It was so funny. She did it for atleast 5 minutes straight. She just kept getting louder and louder, and the louder she got, the more she seemed to enjoy it. I think she was crackin' herself up. Luckily we were in a very loud sport's bar and restaurant (a smoke-free one, of course), so she just blended in with all the other noise. We will definitely go back there when we want to go out. Gotta love a noisy restaurant when you're with a future horror movie star. Smile, smile.

Amaya had her 4-month check-up today. She's officially long and lean. She was in the 90th percentile for height (25 3/4 inches) and in the 25th percentile for weight (12 pounds, 12 ounces). Although, I think that they measured her a titch to long, there is a degree of error with a rolling 4 month old, I think. So she may be more around the 75th-80th percentiles. But even so, that still makes her long and lean. We swear we're feeding her. Smile, smile. She must have her daddy's build and metabolism. Amaya was in the 50th percentile for head circumference (16 1/4 inches). She got her 4 month vaccinations today, 1 oral vaccine and 4 injectable vaccines, and did very well with them. Just like last time, afterward I cuddled and soothed her, and once she stopped crying, she flashed me the biggest smile. So sweet. One would think she's wear a frown for atleast an hour after that, but not Amaya. Either she was so glad it was over or she just forgives and forgets very easily.

That's about all for now. We will blog, again, when we return from MN. We picked a good time to head north. Monsoon season is officially underway.
Love always,

We're blogging it.

Hello Family and Friends,

Here is our first entry on our first blog. This will be a nice way to keep everyone updated on the little one. So, from now on, instead of email updates, you can just log on to our blog if you want to hear the latest on Amaya.

A little synopsis on Amaya's last month: Amaya has been doing well. She's been sleeping through the night 8-10 hours consistently since June 11, with the exception of a 3 day growth spurt at the end of June. Amaya starting rolling from her belly to her back June 22 and from her back to her belly on July 2. So now she's rolling all over the place. She's enjoying her new found independence and you can tell she's ready for her next challenge. She's been trying to get up on her knees and rock, but her legs keep slipping back. She'll get it soon I'm sure and then the next thing we'll know is she be crawling all over, exploring. She continues to do lots of "talking" and she loves "blowing bubbles" which sometimes produces bubbles, but the rest of the time it just appears that she likes to spit and a stick her tongue out. She frequently says yeah, and sometimes coincidentally it is in response to a yes or no question, which is always funny. We know, though, this is not really her first word, but in the same category with her aahhh's and oohhh's. She has different tones to her sounds that crack us up. There's her sweet tones, then there's her "I want something" tone. She does let us know when it's time for a new activity, some cuddling, or time to get off the phone with that tone. It's quite funny. We'll also hear that tone when she's done with a nap. Sometimes when she wakes up, instead of crying, she'll use "that tone" and call us with her oohh's and aahh's. She'll call out a few times, pause, then call out some more until we arrive. So funny how babies are just little people. Amaya will be 4 months old in a few days, hard to believe, so next week we will have another weight and length update. She's outgrown lots of clothes, so we shall see how much her measurements have changed in 2 months. That also means more shots, poor little gal. They get so many nowdays. At 2 months she had 6 different immunizations (1 oral, 5 injectable).

Next week Amaya is also going on her 3rd trip, this time to MN for a wedding. So she's becoming a seasoned air traveler early. She will get to see her boyfriend that came to visit her in April, again, so she's excited. She also gets to meet atleast 2 other little friends that were born recently, so she should have a great time. On top of all that, she'll get to meet 2 more cousins. Big weekend for Amaya! Hopefully the flights go as smooth as in the past. Smile, smile. Well, that is all we have for now. We look forward to updates from all of you as well!
